Ballarat athletes work their way through the vines with ease at Athletics Victoria XCR Round 4

The sun was out at the St Anne’s Winery in Bendigo where 45 Ballarat athletes took on the XCR course through the grape vines. Ballarat teams relished the opportunity to head to Bendigo with big results in the individual and team events.

The U14 teams had a huge day with the U14 Men’s two teams coming in 1st & 2nd in a tremendous performance. The U14 Female side also notched up a win on the day thanks to a 2nd place athlete finish to Paige Tuddenham. The U16 & U20 Female teams managed 2nd place while the U18 team of Bonnie Burt, Julliette Downes & Ailish Ryan came in 1st.

In the Masters grades, it was Angela Williams that yet again showed why she is one of Ballarat best runners with a 1st place in the Women’s 50+ category, she was joined by Michelle Hawkes in 4th place. Nic Van Raaphorst new to the Men 40+ category had a 3rd place finish in the 8km event.

In the OPEN grades a huge effort by Katherine Dowie saw her place 1st overall in the field. Dowie along with Eliza Lepair, Angela Williams, Katrina Anderson, Michelle Hawkes and Heather O’Brien took the Ballarat Region Premier Division team to 3rd place for the weekend.

In the OPEN Men, the team consisting of Ben Stevens, Ben Ludbrook, Will Ford, Joshua Johnston, Nic Van Raaphorst & Darcy Williams took the Premier Division Men to 4th place while the newly promoted Div 3 team pushed their way to 6th.
