Ballarat and Western Victorian athletes got a special visit from world renowned Javelin coach Uwe Hohn over the weekend with specialised coaching at Llanberris Athletics Reserve. Hohn has coached some of the world’s best athletes and is the current coach of Ballarat’s own Kathryn Mitchell. Along with coaching Mitchell, Hohn has been the previous coach of Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra and China’s national champion Zhao Quiggang. Coaching for many decades, Hohn was able to bring his experience and knowledge to Ballarat.
Selected Ballarat athletes were invited to attend the specialist clinic with Mitchell joining Hohn talking through important technique and power within the event of Javelin. The clinic, which was run in conjunction with Ballarat Little Athletics, saw 18 athletes receive coaching across the afternoon. Hohn was able to provide an insight to the members on the preparation and training for elite athletes, an invaluable lesson for the members in Ballarat.
Along with the clinic, Mitchell kindly donated her original Eureka Athletic Club running singlet to the centre which will be framed and placed in the Stuart Hunter building at Llanberris Athletics Reserve
BRAC would like to thank both Uwe Hohn and Kathryn Mitchell for taking the time to visit Ballarat and run the clinic, our athletes are very lucky to get personalised training and you are welcome back anytime.
