The Ballarat Regional Athletic Centre (BRAC) is deeply saddened to hear the passing of long time official and life member of the centre, Brian Howlett.

Howlett joined Ballarat YCW Harriers in 1957 and quickly become involved in all facets of the organisation, by the 1960’s he was heavily involved in the YCW junior program helping to develop the next generation of athletes in the club. Always a selfless worker, Howlett would turn up rain, hail or shine to coordinate the athletics for the juniors. He continued to run the junior program on and off until 2018.

Along with his club accolades, Howlett would often be seen at the BRAC Cross Country events as a timekeeper or Marshall with many athletes having fond memories of him supporting on the course. Howlett was often also seen at the finish line in Track & Field season as an official.

Howlett served as a member of both Ballarat YCW Harriers and BRAC for many years and was elected life member of BRAC in 2018 for his outstanding service to the Ballarat Athletics community.

He will be sadly missed by all in the athletics community.
