Vic Combined Events Championships

2024 Track and Field season into full swing!

A big weekend at Lakeside Stadium to kick off the Track & Field season for 2024, with the Vic Combined Events Championships, HVC/AVT Meet #2, Rare Air High Jump II & PV III and the Surf Coast Track Meet.

All athletes competed very well across all events yet again displaying the strength of athletics in Ballarat, with one silver medal and one bronze medal. The bronze medal to Charlie Inkster in the Under 20 Women’s Heptathlon and the silver to Mackenzie Estlick in the Under 18 Women’s Heptathlon. A tough weekend running, jumping, and throwing across the 100m Hurdles, 200m, High Jump, Shot Put, 800m (1500m for men), Long Jump and Javelin.

The results are as followed:

Female U20 – Heptathlon:

  • 3rd Charlie Inkster 3473pts

Female U18 – Heptathlon:

  • 2nd Mackenzie Estlick 4117pts
  • 12th Mikala Shannon 2921pts

Female U16Heptathlon:

  • 7th Summer Jenkins 3456pts
  • 11th Kiana Jenkins 3053pts

Male U16 Heptathlon:

  • 11th Logan Crawley 765pts

 

HVC/AVT Meet #2 saw three Ballarat competitors. The day started off with the 200m’s, Nyajima Jock’s raced in the A heat with a time of 24.41s. We then saw Aubery Watson run in the C heat, with a time of 22.87s. Moving on to the 400m we saw Layla Watson compete in the A heat and run a time of 55.53s

Training partners Yual Reath and Lachlan O’Keefe took on the Rare Air High Jump II & PV III meet where they went on to claim 1st and 2nd. Yual’s jump of 2.23m secured him with the victory and Lachlan’s jump of 2.07m further solidified his position.

The Surf Coast Track Meet occurred over the weekend, Ballarat saw to competitors in Ben Ludbrook and Joshua Hawkes. Ben competed in the 10,000m A heat and finished 7th in a time of 31:36.34. Joshua competed in the 5,000m A heat and finished in 18th with a time of 16:34.08.

As always, a huge thanks to our officials who made the journey to lakeside stadium for these events whilst also battling the changing conditions across the weekend, from sunscreen and a hat to an umbrella and rain jacket.
