The four athletics clubs in Ballarat were well represented at the St Annes Winery Victorian Country Championships in Bendigo with 98 participants competing over the weekend! Ballarat has had major success in the past at the Country Championships and this year was no exception with Ballarat athletes taking home an impressive 63 country gold medals throughout the weekend.
Along with Country Golds, Ballarat athletes Cooper Sherman (Male) and Nyajima Jock (Female) took home the Australian Day awards given to the athletes who displayed the most impressive individual performance across the weekend across all country clubs! Cooper took home gold in the U20 Men 100m ,200m & 400m while Nyajima took home gold in the WOP 200m ahead of quality competition and was a member of the gold 4 X400m & 4 X 100m Women Wendouree Athletics Clubs teams on the weekend.
Wendouree Athletics Club member Angela Williams also took home the Best Female Veterans Athlete for her performance over the weekend, this capped off a great weekend by Wendouree who also took home the gold medal in both the Men and Women Open 4 X 400m events.
Along with these awards, BRAC president Steve McLennan took home the treasured Joyce Lockyer Memorial Shield, given to the athletes who displays impressive sportsmanship across the weekend.
Special shout out to Eureka Athletics Club Athlete Caytlyn Sharp who won an incredible SIX gold medals in the AMB Women field, an extraordinary effort.
