The Australian All Schools Track & Field Championships ran over the weekend on the new track in Adelaide with 18 Ballarat based athletes making the trip to represent Victoria! All 18 athletes had been selected to represent the state in their event/s after performances at the State All Schools event in October/November this year.
The championships across three days of action in Adelaide saw Ballarat athletes take home 12 medals for Victoria in a terrific display of talent across a variety of events. Wendouree’s own Mackayla Culvenor saw the first Gold Medal in the U15 Women’s Triple Jump with a leap of 11.98 metres giving her victory. Wendouree’s Lachlan O’Keefe followed up with Gold in the U18 Men’s High Jump clearing 2.07 metres on the first attempt.
Warrnambool based Ballarat Harriers sprinter Layla Watson and Grace Kelly were big winners with 5 medals between them across the U17 & U18 Women’s sprint events. Madison Wright joined Kelly in the Womens’4 X100m U18 relay to take a second medal along with her bronze in the 100m event.
Eureka athlete Alyssa Benbow saw two medals across her four events with two silvers across Discus and Shot Put where she throw 14.09 metres! To round out the medallist, Ballarat YCW and Ballarat High athlete Scott Peart gained a Bronze in the Men’s U18 3000m Walk event
