Ballarat Regional Athletic Centre (BRAC) caters to families and individuals by promoting participation and the enjoyment of athletics. The centre actively supports and encourages athletes at all levels and ages to achieve their individual goals.
Ballarat Harriers is one of Australia’s oldest sporting organisation, founded in 1891. The Club has an incredibly rich and long history of competition at the local, state and national level, and has produced a suite of elite athletes in cross country and track and field.
We provide weekly cross country events during the winter season (from April to September each year), and weekly athletics meets – against three other Ballarat club’s – during track and field season (October to March). Our athletes have the option of competing for the Ballarat Regional Athletic Centre (BRAC) team at Athletics Victoria (AV) cross country events, and also at AV track and field meets during summer.
Membership to the Ballarat Harriers entitles athletes to compete in both cross country and track and field formats across the year.
YCW Harriers is one of the largest athletics club in regional Victoria, with over 400 junior and 100 senior members. Over the years, weve produced some of Australia’s most successful runners, including Steve Moneghetti, Tony Benson, Shaun Creighton, Sharon Russell (nee Stewart), Shane Nankervis, Jared Tallent, Rachel Tallent and Samuel Rizzo.
For over 65 years, YCW Harriers athletics club has been a stalwart of Ballarat’s running scene. Ballarat YCW caters for athletes of every age: from our under five junior harriers to 60 year olds. In fact, some of our more senior members have been associated with the club for over 40 years. We’re also a very social and family-oriented running club. There are many third generation family members competing with the club and often whole families will compete in the same race. This can result in some tight sprint finishes, as parents try to hold off their fast finishing offspring. The Blood family, for example, has had four generations wear the red and white singlet, with Andrew, Tim, Gary and Bernard Blood still competing. The van Raaphorst family have also been fantastic club supporters, with six siblings and two in-laws currently competing.
