Victorian All Schools Championships – Weekend 1

The first weekend of the All Schools championships saw athletes represent their local school and club at Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne. Ballarat clubs were once again prevalent in the championships walking away with 17 medals in the first weekend.

Big thank you to all officials and volunteers that made the trip to Melbourne for the event, it was a great day for all athletes representing their schools

Sprinter Dream at Lakeside

The sprinters had a field day with Grace Crowe, Armani Anderson and Grace Kelly all finishing with a Gold Medal in the 100m final on Sunday. This meant Ballarat athletes took out the Female U16, U17 & U18 100m finals across the whole state! Wendouree Athlete Mackenzie Estlick also took out 2nd place in the Females U16 field behind Grace Crowe showcasing Ballarat talents while Eleanor Downey from Ballarat Little Athletics took a silver in the Female U15 Para 100m event.

The medals didn’t stop there with Molly Fraser (F18) adding an All School Gold Medal in the Triple Jump representing Ballarat Clarendon College. The Triple Jump medals are speciality of Ballarat athletes with the Culvenor sister Mackayla (F16) and Ella (15) both receiving bronze in their age groups.

Zac Grainger stormed home for a strong victory in the Men U18 2000m Steeple event beating out his opponent by less than a second. Olivia Hickingbotham also experiencing a medal in the 2000m Steeple Female 16 with a bronze. Ballarat High’s Scott Peart also a silver medallist in the 5000m Walk Male U18

In the throws it was Alyssa Benbow who continued her stronghold in Victoria with a gold in the Female U17 Shot Put, Alyssa will add this to her ever-growing tally of medals. Ballarat High’s Jace Murray also a silver medallist in the Discus throw in Male U17

To cap it off Ballarat Little Athletics member Eleanor Downey came away with an incredible 5 medals including 1 gold, 3 silver and a bronze in the Female U15 Para category. Eleanor won medals in the 100m, 400m, 1500m, Discus, Shot Put.
