Athletics Victoria XCR Round 2 – St Anne’s Winery (Bendigo)

Ballarat Region continues positive starts to the XCR season with impressive performances across several age groups

Congratulations to all athletes who made the trip to Bendigo on the weekend to compete in round 2 of the XCR season! A new venue with athletes running through the grapevines on the estate, athletes that attended were welcomed with a clear sky!

In the 4km U14 Women’s race, Ballarat regions Leni Williams, Olivia Hickingbotham and Amali Torney all run under 19 minutes. This was followed by Ben Mornane finishing 3rd in the U18 Men’s 4km finishing in a strong time of 12:55 minutes. Ballarat athlete Kody Taggart finished just outside the top 10 in a strong field. The U20 Men race saw Darcy Williams and Isaac Rossato finishing just outside the podium with Hugh Ollerenshaw rounding out the top 8.

In the 3km junior section, Rex Brennan and Riley Shillito both finished under 11 minutes in the U16 men’s category, fellow member Cody Torney finished strong in the same race. In the U16 Women’s race, both Gretta Ashley and Rose Ashman pushed hard to finish in the top six athletes finishing under 12 minutes.

In the open sections, Will Ford was the fastest Ballarat male finishing in the top 50 in a time of 26:50 minutes closely followed by Ben Ludbrook. The fastest female was Karla Treweek who finished 18th finishing in a time of 31:50 minutes. Special mention to Angela Williams and Michelle Hawkes who both finished in the top 5 within the Women 40+ category and to Alison Fidler who finished 2nd within the 50+ Women’s section.
