Athletics Victoria XCR R4 – Ekiden Relays

Ballarat Region head to St Anne's Winery to compete in Round 4 of the AV XCR Season with several top three places across the day

The Ballarat Region sent 11 relay teams down to Athletics Victoria XCR R4 at St Anne’s Winery on the weekend to compete against the rest of that State! Ballarat came away with some extremely impressive results including two 1st places and two 2nd places among the different age groups.

The Juniors had a positive start with the U14 Men team consisting of Levi Hynes, Mitchell Korosec and Lachlan Anderson winning their category finishing the 14.4km course in a time of 58.14 minutes. The U16 Mens side battled hard to finish 6th while the U18 Womens side ended up in 4th position on the 16.7km course.

The U18 Mens team consisting of Ben Mornane, Zac Grainger and Kody Taggart came out firing to finish in 2nd place while the U20 Mens team also had a 2nd place finish with Isaac Rossato, Darcy Williams and Samuel Pearce finishing their 21.9km joint course in a time of 01:20.19 hours.

In the Masters, the 40+ Mens side finished first with Ben Fahy setting the team up for success with a 31.39 minute 8.8km leg in the relays. The 50+ Mens side also had a positive outing with a close 4th place with Vincent Duffy finishing the last 4.7km leg strong in 21.23 minutes. The Womens 40+ team finished strong to take 3rd place with Michelle Hawkes in the last leg pushing up to 3rd.

In the OPEN categories, the Premier Division Women finished 7th in a strong field while the Division 4 Mens team took out 3rd place after heading to a hot start over the 8.8km leg of the race. The Premier Men team pushed themselves to limit on the 38.2km combined course but fell to 8th finishing in 2:10.44 minutes.
